Zine 1

Zine for Zines: Collage, Xerox, Mail Art course taken SQ24 at Seattle University

In my zines, I explored the concepts of aesthetics, beauty, and pleasure and ways I could evoke this through writing, photography, and design. For this zine in particular, the organization of type and photo elements using unconventional methods of display were important to me.

The theme I took for the writing of the zine was to build off itself page by page, outlining my own desires in a more and more abstract fashion as the zine went on until the conclusion. I wanted to use simple type (this is only Times New Roman) and use the offhanded formatting of the photos and text to highlight the content. While writing this zine, I wanted to create a recollection of some of my favorite experiences that the reader may have experienced themselves, continuing my exploration on aesthetics and beauty and how I could translate it into typography and writing within a visual medium; I found it important to consider meaning beyond physical appearance, and attempted this through writing. This was originally printed in black and white.
