This poster is a personal exploration of culture and the loss of, and research on imperialism and its relationship with the English language.
The inspiration for this infographic poster project came through my correspondence with one of my professors who shared my background (Korean, humanities, art student) whom I had taken a course with the previous quarter. The course was British Literature in the West Indies, which I took as one of my final electives in hopes that I would get to explore literature and the English language in a university setting. I was disappointed when I read the syllabus, realizing we wouldn’t be reading authors I knew—we would be exploring the works of authors hidden within the oppressive gaps of British history. However, throughout the course, I unexpectedly resonated with the authors we read, who wrote their experiences living under British imperialism. This project is an ode to what I learned in the course and how it has shaped my own understanding of living under imperialism and white supremacy.
